Les Baux

The Baux Appellation Controllee is another one of our favorite “lesser-known” regions in France.  Baux is a Medieval town that sits on top of a mountain so that its inhabitants could defend themselves from attackers.  It is located about 10 minutes south of St. Remy, and about an hour to the West of Aix-en-Provence.  There’s a great museum there with catapults, etc.  Great place to visit.  The wine is in the nature of a Bandol or Bordeaux — stronger, richer reds.

You can see the town of Les Baux in this picture.  It is silhouetted at the top of the hill in the background.  In the foreground are vines from Mas de la Dame.
